 FACT: Employee sickness absence is generally accepted to cost UK businesses more than £13.2 billion each year. The overall average is 6.7 days per person per year. This excludes all extra on-costs such as Management time, loss of productivity, increased overtime or contractor levels, etc…. (source CBI- Confederation of British Industry).
Susan Anderson, the CBI’s director of HR policy, warned that employers faced "two serious and expensive challenges":
